Looking ahead to 2012

2011 has been a great year for Cherry Hill Coffee. There were many proud moments this year, with the highlight being our 25th anniversary. The feedback on our Anniversary Roast was tremendous and we look forward to bringing you more special releases in 2012. Our Brew Schools have also become a hotly anticipated monthly event, and you’re going to see a lot more of them based on the response we’ve had. (We’re also looking forward to a special event sometime this spring which will appeal to coffee nerds and baristas alike, so stay tuned for more details). Collaborating with Urban Distilleries on their Sprit Bear Espresso Vodka and Crannog Ales on an Espresso Stout were both up there on the list as well. It’s great to have such a cooperative, innovative relationship with like-minded local companies. But most of all, we’re proud of having the coolest customers in Canada. Without you, things just wouldn’t be the same. So here’s to looking forward to an exciting 2012 and another 25 years. Happy New Years everyone.

Recently I was lucky enough to travel to Chicago to meet with staff at Fetco, a leading producer of coffee brewing equipment. My number one priority was to develop brewing standards for our coffee on their equipment. Unlike other brewers, Fetco offers advanced parameters to really highlight a particular coffees flavour profile. This was a also a great opportunity to see first hand their manufacturing facility and get some one on one preventative maintenance training with our Canadian rep Steve Thibodeau. We spent the better part of two days dialing in four different coffees and charting a TDS/Extraction profile for each one based on roast level and origin. When all was said and done we had our coffee matching up to SCAA/Gold Cup brewing standards. It was, needless to say, a very productive (and sleepless) visit. The fun didn’t stop there though. What trip to Chicago would be complete without hitting Chicago icon Intelligentsia’s roasting facility? Jay Cunningham showed me around the warehouse, lab and production floor that roasts over two million pounds a year (to put in perspective, Cherry Hill roasts about 250,000 lbs). I was also surprised with an impromptu cupping with the roasters featuring a delicious Kenya Gichathaini. Big thanks to Jay for his hospitality and wicked restaurant reccomendation too (Big Star in Wicker Park = best tacos ever)

Starting December 5th, Cherry Hill Coffee will be extending our hours at our Kelowna Roastery/Retail space just in time for the holidays.

Monday: 8am-5pm
Tuesday: 8am-5pm
Wednesday: 8am-5pm
Thursday: 8am-6pm
Friday: 8am-6pm
Saturday: 10am-2pm
Sunday: Closed

*We will be closed December 24-26 for Christmas and December 31-January 1 for New Years. Web orders will not be processed on those days, but will be filled the next scheduled work day.
